What is Cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis, also known as “fat freezing” or by the product name CoolSculpting, is a new procedure that involves the non-invasive cooling of body fat to break down fat cells, resulting in a reduction of body fat without damage to other tissues. The effect takes several months to be seen.
During the procedure:
1. A vacuum applicator is placed on the skin to bring it into contact with cooling panels.
2. Patients feel a cold sensation for a few minutes, as it produces an anesthetic effect.
3. The fat is cooled for up to an hour.
What should first be done before considering cryolipolysis?
Before the procedure, an ASDS dermatologist will review the patient’s medical history. This is the time for the doctor and patient to discuss expectations, potential risks and outcomes of the procedure
People who are not in good overall physical, mental and emotional health may not be good candidates for the procedure.
How effective is Cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis appears to be a safe and effective treatment for fat loss without the downtime of liposuction or surgery. But it is important to note that cryolipolysis is intended for fat loss, not weight loss.
Is Cryolipolysis permanent?
CoolSculpting is clinically proven to produce permanent results. Once the treated fat cells have been frozen through cryolipolysis, they die. The body’s natural reaction is to remove these dead fat cells through its natural elimination process.
